This Scientific Report analyses the effects of public policies on structural gaps and territorial economic outcomes in Italy. The Report integrates the results of seven scientific contributions elaborated by different research groups within the GRINS Spoke 7. Therefore, the range of public policies considered is quite broad, spanning from the public capital expenditures across varying levels of institutional bodies (national, regional, local), the EU Cohesion Policy (CP) funds, the Local Expenditure Needs (LEN) of municipalities, the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) policy, the digital and green policies embedded in the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the green transition policies.
Moreover, the territorial disparities examined are also heterogeneous, covering a wide range of geographical areas in Italy: regions, provinces, and municipalities. Consequently, given the high degree of heterogeneity in the policies, territorial coverage, and methodologies employed, the results in terms of territorial disparities are rather diversified. Despite these varieties, the Report provides interesting indications to policymakers and stakeholders on the suitable policies to contrast territorial inequality in Italy.
